The planning includes an old, but that's where it will be necessary, however, again. The controversy raised by the study of the CNR. The disinterest of local news and public opinion to a key issue for the future of the area.

The debate on nuclear power, and the possibility of an about-face in Italy is increasingly taking part, to the point that it could become a leitmotif of the next election campaign for the renewal of the regional council. In particular, is causing some big waves the news of the possible installation of a nuclear power plant in Termoli, and raises some surprise that not one voice of concern or even simply comment has been raised by the public of local and provincial. Even so, the risk that the middle instead of in the center may end up on the border with Molise, Puglia and the province of Foggia, or even just in the province of Foggia is far from being exorcised.
To understand more necessary to go back to the genesis of the news, which is dated only a few days ago, but actually refers to (often masquerading as fresh news information that are quite mature) to something that did not happen just in the last weeks. These are the results of a study conducted by the Institute of Biometeorology Ibimet of CNR (National Research Council) in Florence, which has developed a map of the sites that would be suitable to host nuclear plants, which includes map Termoli in Molise and Mola di Bari in Puglia. The point is that nobody knows exactly when it was drawn to the study, and therefore can be updated as the data contained in it: surely the survey was conducted in a period prior to March 2008, because this month was presented in a public press conference.
on who commissioned the study, and the manner in which the results were released, there have been lively debate in recent days. But since it seems a common ground: the study is prepared by the National Research Council, probably a first (and perhaps partial) update of a document that always returns when it comes to nuclear power in our country: the famous "Charter of sites" published in the seventies by CNEN (National Committee for the 'Nuclear Energy), which went to identify areas capable of locating nuclear plants. In our opinion this is a rather remote possibility, given the high seismic risk area, but will still be the case to follow closely the evolution of the story, pointing out, for example, that after the tragic earthquake that shook Molise and the valley of Fortore the whole area was declared a high seismic risk, with the exception of the reservoir Occhito, which otherwise would have been forced to close its doors forever. But back to the map of the sites developed at the time by CNEN The committee worked on a grid of parameters that define the requirements and criteria for selection of sites subject to settlement of the central and nuclear plants), ie also indicated that the variables to be taken into account in the systematic study of the area (demography, geology, seismology, technical practicability, limit events, ecology). Among the different variables considered, those that have brought the most significant reductions have been useful to the variable area declining population and seismic activity.
Map of sites was then drawn intersecting the results obtained by processing the different thematic maps. In the big picture, we see the final results of work performed by CNEN: as you can see, the location of significant sites that are ideal characteristics for the allocation of nuclear power is definitely concentrated in the North. But both are Molise, Puglia, and especially our region quite solid, as is best seen in the more detailed map. For what concerns us more closely, it becomes clear that the map of the sites identified two potential sites of CNEN in the province of Foggia: the "condominium" with Molise, located on that strip that goes, just from Molise to Hvar Marina, and the one located on the southern coast Siponto among agro and that of the Manfredonia Zapponeta. This site is no longer present in the study of the CNR, we talked about, but in fairness I must say that this is not an official study and that everyone will be asked to settle once and for all choices, will inevitably leave from work CNEN, with mapping, moreover, one that returns to peep whenever we talk about nuclear options in Italy. short, trust is good, but trust is better, and that is why I agree that the media and the public turn on the lights on, have it without him slipping over, as is the case so far.
